Saint Marina

Saint Marina (also known as Marina the Monk or Marina the Ascetic) is a Christian saint known for her deep devotion, humility, and a remarkable life of disguise and sacrifice.

Marina was born in Lebanon in the 5th century to a wealthy Christian family. When her mother died, her father wanted to become a monk and leave Marina in the care of others. But Marina, eager to live a life devoted to God, asked to go with him. To join the monastery, she dressed as a man and took the name “Marinos,” hiding her true identity.

She lived for years among the monks, praying, working, and serving in silence. No one knew she was a woman. One day, she was falsely accused of fathering a child with a local innkeeper’s daughter. Though innocent, Marina accepted the blame without defending herself, showing great humility. She was expelled from the monastery and lived outside, caring for the child like it was her own.

After her death, the monks discovered she was a woman—and were astonished by her holiness, patience, and silent suffering. Her life became a powerful example of humility, faith, and endurance.
